The Nova Scotia Physician Achievement Review (NSPAR) program is the peer assessment program of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia. NSPAR was launched for the first time in Nova Scotia in February 2005 and continues to expand to include larger numbers of physicians and specialties.
NSPAR is based on a leading-edge, multi-source feedback process that offers physicians detailed and confidential information about their practice, through the eyes of their medical colleagues, co-workers and patients. Assessment programs elsewhere have found that physicians appreciate detailed, reliable feedback and particularly value clarification of what others consider exemplary medical practice.
The College is committed to promoting a culture of ongoing quality
improvement in medical practice and NSPAR serves as the backbone for
this process, providing the model and tools for a self-directed program
of professional development and quality improvement. The long-term goal
of the program is to promote a culture of continuous quality improvement
among Nova Scotia physicians and to offer a link between assessment
and professional development.
