NSPAR focuses on practice improvement and professional development. The program encourages physicians to use their NSPAR review results when choosing professional development and continuing medical education activities.
Feedback from physicians who have completed their NSPAR reviews indicates that a significant majority feel their NSPAR report provided useful information and many had made, or were planning to make practice changes in response to the report findings.
This section of the site provides information and links to a variety of sources for practice improvement, CME and continuing professional development.
The College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada agree that peer assessment programs such as NSPAR are an important aspect of continuing professional development. Family physicians can earn MAINPRO-C credits from the CFPC, while surgeons and medical specialists are eligible for credits in the Maintenance of Certification Program of the RCPSC.
