Physician feedback helps shape NSPAR program

October 6, 2008: The Nova Scotia Physician Achievement Review (NSPAR) program is reviewing the findings of an ongoing feedback survey that has been distributed to all physicians who have completed an NSPAR review during the past three years.

Approximately 155, or 50% of the 311 physicians who received the survey, have completed and returned it to the research firm that administers the NSPAR program at arm's length from the College.

A few highlights from the research include:

  • 65 percent of respondents stated that the feedback they received from their NSPAR review accurately described their practice.

  • 75 percent of respondents felt that the NSPAR report was easy to understand.

  • Based on medical colleague feedback, 45 percent of respondents have made or are contemplating making changes in their practices. These range from communication improvements to changes in time management and enhancements in charting, writing, and paperwork.

  • 72 percent of respondents felt that the value of NSPAR to the medical profession was either excellent or good.

  • 63 percent of respondents felt that the value of NSPAR to them, as practicing physicians, was either excellent or good.

The verbatim comments provided by physicians on the NSPAR program will help determine future programming refinements and communications. Physicians generously provided a range of feedback on the program methodology, questionnaire design and the timing of reviews. All this feedback will be considered as the program plans for the future.
